Advent One

Today’s Reading: Luke 2:15-20

“But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart” Luke 2:19

The dictionary defines “ponder” as “to think about, to reflect on, to consider deeply.”   That seems to be an excellent suggestion as we begin the season of Advent and the celebration of the birth of the Christ.  It is a time to reflect on the meaning of his life for each of us as we seek to live as his disciples.

Some people find the meaning of his life in the events surrounding his death and resurrection.  Others find it in his teachings as the source of guiding how we are supposed to live.  And still others find it in his behavior in relating to all kinds of people, an illustration of how we are to live in relationships with others.  Certainly, there are aspects of each of these viewpoints to ponder during this season.

So, as we begin this time of celebration, let each of us pause to reflect on the life of the Christ and how our view of the meaning of his life impacts us as we seek to live as people of faith.
