The Title of my blog is the name of my Island Packet sailboat. The word Telos is my abreviation of the branch of philosophy/theology called Teleology. “Teleology is the study of evidence of design in nature” [Webster], or in theology, the belief that there is a ultimate purpose or meaning to everything that is. It is my belief that the ultimate meaning/purpose of human life is found in our very capacity to create a purposeful and meaningful life. The purpose and meaning of our individual lives is not something we find or discover. It is something we have the God given ability to create, and we are called precisely to do that with divine guidance and support.
For example, I purchased my sailboat to share with friends and family the wonder and joy of exploring the world through sailing. Sailing has been an experience that has taught me many things about life and how we create meaning in it. [see the article “A Bucket List Dream Fulfilled” or read the book “First You Have to Learn to Row A Little Boat” for examples of how sailing teaches about creating a meaningful life.] Sharing my sailing experience with friends and family has been an opportunity for me to create some of the ultimate meanings of friendship and family.
I hope that this blog will contribute to you creating further some of the meanings and purpose of your own life as you learn about mine.
So welcome to Telos 2 and best wishes to all who explore here.
